About Leros
Leros has been called many things... amongst them "The Little Italy" due to the Lakki area architecture which is heavily influenced by Italian Rationalization. "Malta of the Aegean" because of its strategic position in the Aegean and natural ports (as well as the largest natural port in Greece). It has been called The Island of Diana or Artemis, Ancient Greek Goddess of Hunting and all things wild, due to the remnants of a temple dedicated to her found in the area of Partheni.
Rich in History with evidence of socio economic connection to Athens in Ancient times, the islands history continues into the WWII with the well documented "Battle of Leros". The events inspire the writing of a book called Guns of Navarone and subsequent film.
Leros is very much unlike the bigger islands of Greece. It is an island of unparalleled beauty with kind and hospitable inhabitants.
